Forbes Best-in-State CPA (Virginia): What It Represents
From time to time, we receive recognition from third-party organizations. Recently, I was included on Forbes’ Best-in-State CPAs list for Virginia.
While I appreciate the recognition, what matters more to me is what it reflects about how our firm operates.
What We Actually Do for Clients
Over the past several years, we’ve made a deliberate shift in how we work with clients.
We don’t focus on one-time tax returns or transactional work. Instead, we work with business owners on an ongoing basis—combining accounting, tax compliance, and advisory support throughout the year.
That includes:
- Ongoing bookkeeping and financial reporting
- Business tax preparation and compliance
- Proactive tax strategy and planning
- Regular advisory conversations tied to real decisions
The goal is simple: fewer surprises, better decisions, and a more coordinated approach to taxes and financial management.
Why We Don’t Do Standalone Work
A lot of issues we see—missed deductions, poor entity structure, inconsistent reporting—don’t come from a lack of effort.
They come from a lack of coordination.
Tax returns prepared once a year, without ongoing visibility into the business, tend to miss opportunities and create unnecessary risk.
That’s why we don’t offer standalone tax preparation. It’s not the best way to serve clients, and it doesn’t lead to the outcomes most business owners are actually looking for.
Who We Typically Work With
Most of our clients are:
- Business owners generating $200K+ in income
- Operating as LLCs, S Corporations, or partnerships
- Looking for more than just compliance
- Interested in long-term planning, not short-term fixes
In many cases, they’ve outgrown their prior setup and are looking for a more structured approach.
What the Recognition Really Means
In our case, the Forbes recognition isn’t about volume or visibility.
It reflects the type of work we do and the type of clients we work with—business owners who need ongoing support and a more thoughtful approach to taxes and financial decision-making.
Final Thoughts
There’s no shortage of firms that can prepare a tax return.
Fewer are structured to provide ongoing guidance and coordinate across accounting, tax, and advisory throughout the year.
That’s the model we’ve built the firm around, and it’s where we see the best results for clients.
